When the 361 was discontinued so was it's cam so the cam became the old 4bbl 383 cam before the magnum cam. 1968 and 1969 may have been the best years for the 2bbl 383 but the 4bbl 383 always made more when it's 4bbl carb was increased in size so the carb was still a restriction on the 4bbl 383. Swapping the 383 Magnum carb for a 440 Magnum carb really helped a lot. The old 1967 and older low rise intakes were pretty restrictive. Mopar used to sell single plane 2x4bbl intakes complete with carbs and air filters in 1966.

what is this larger 2barrel carb your talking about? chrysler used two types i know of prior to 71 stromberg and carter for thier 2 barrel engines, both have same bore and work about the same.
the 2 x 4 setup your refering too is off 58s. 60-61 had cross ram with carbs over exhaust manifolds while 62-64 had the inline for 413, and max wedge had the cross ram simular to hemi offset carb. inlines where usually cast while the others were white metal - aluminum although i have seen them in cast iron as well but they are rare.
