which way to go??
hello all, i just picked up a 70 340 motor for my 71 scamp project for $400, it has a LD 340 intake on it, performance wise should i sell it and use the ede performer i have or is it better? it also has a a set of "u" heads on it with 915 casting #s. how do i tell if these are t/a heads since the guy i got it from "says" it was out of a t/a challenger before he put it in his swamp buggy ?? if i remember right the intake push rods are off 1/4 inch?? i plan on building a 10-1 stroker motor with this block, so im just curious what ur sugestions are. i will probaly go with a set of ede heads too and a huges suggested cam, i also have a 71 360 motor has any one had any experience in doing the stroker motors? would i be better building the 360 or the 340? its funny i keep hearing how this stuff is drying up and getting expensive between the car, the 8 3/4 w/ 3.55 posi both motors and a set of small bolt ralley wheels i have less then 1000 in car so far...........(sorry dont mean to brag)

LD340 is pretty much equivalent to Edelbrock RPM dual plane, a very good intake.
Under the valvecovers, i you have adjustable rockerarms with offset intake rockers, tehy are most likely 340 six pack heads, if stamped steelies or straight adjustables they are not. Since the castings are teh same, it's not a big deal which one they are. If building a stroker, start with the 360 and sell the steel crank 340 away. They are worth way more than the 360, and building them costs just the same. |

Did the LD 340 intake actually get installed on any cars at the factory? I heard it has a Chrysler part #? I seen Hughes has a kit out to make a 30 over 360 into a 426. That'll move that Scamp real quick, even if it had 3.23s in it!

That would make a 408 by the way.

i dont think a crank that big would go into a stock block too well, maybe the new aftermarket block since there advertising a crate sm block 440

Made by Edelbrock for Chrysler, the inatkes also had a choke well for OEM carb use. Chrysler sold it as theres with a part number on them. |

Doesnt he have the performer? LD-340 is superior to the Performer, larger runners, higher RPM potential and it has the neato little window in the plenum devider to give it 200 more useable RPM's. The 426 would more likely be based on a 30 over 340 as it had a larger piston to begin with. I agree that you should sell the 340 and build yourself a 360 and brag all you want, that is a SCORE! BTW, stroker kits are cheap nowdays, you can get a stroked crank cheaper than an OEM stocker. Oh yeah, the T/A heads will have a 360 in a casting number, like AAWJ360

Neat little window. Ha ha ha. Heres my neat little window.
Moded LD-340 with T-Q and MP spacers for additional plenum, if need be. (Everybody, WATCH OUT! DW is a goona cream on this one!!!!!!!!) http://www.moparchat.com/forums/atta...7&d=1040948024 |

Yes, keep the LD-340 and sell the Edel. Performer.
Or, sell both and get a RPM. Pishta, I got tell ya that thing ran great. The mods raised the RPM ceiling and the T-Q was a leap in CFM over the Holley I had been useing. |
