Shocks....suggestions?
Ok, its time to replace my shocks on my 73' Charger SE . Do I stay with mopars stock design or upgrade too something special? Do I want to do more then just the shocks? Suprisingly enouph she corners very very well with little to no body roll, but her front end swims up n down at 120mph on the straights...
Application- driven daily aggresively, twisty mountain roads through the mountains where I live. Wheels n tires- 295/50/15 Rear, 255/60/15 front... ( I just cant bring my self to put on 17's or 18's even though it would probably suit my driving application better. I am too much of a traditionalist. |

Your only good choice for shocks is the KYB adjustables. Over the counter shocks wont cut it anymore and the only other source would be stock mount race shocks. You have the best set up on wheels and tires now. IF you go larger you'll be loosing the great handling you have now, not gain. Larger wheels add to unsprunbg weight and that reduces handling. The increase in wheels weight also makes it take longer to accelerate and slow to a stop and lets face it these cars are heavy enough to begin with. Also the 60 series 15" tire will give you the proper slip angles for the best handling too. IF you wish to make it better, look into putting a larger front and rear sway bar on your car.

Are KYB "Kyaba's"?
I think yamaha snogo's run them............. HPG or whatever the skidoo shocks are, are in kahoots with bilsteins, I think, good shocks, as far as sno go's go. If you would like to spend tons of money on shocks, I really like my walker evans, rebuildable, revalveable, and long lasting. Dunno about aplications for chargers though, someone with high speed internet will have to check, hehe. |

I'm into road racing where Koni reigns supreme and most folks poop on KYB -at least on their non-adjustable shocks. As with anything else, it's all about how much you have to spend. Check this out: http://www.xvmotorsports.com/
Not cheap, but you get what you pay for... |

If you want a good set of moderately priced shocks that do double duty as a regular street shock, and self-adjust to hard driving, look into the Edlebrock IAS shocks. I'm running them, and am very pleased. I replaced a set of KYBs with them, and they are a definite improvement.
