I beleive that the shipping weight on those is just over 100#. Depending on how fast and where you are shipping to that can vary so much I would hate even start to tell you how much it would cost.

If it was 110# and you were to ship it to North Carolina by ups ground it would be about $70. I just checked with our shipping dept. and that was the #'s they gave me. Hope that helps.

A 727 with the standard passenger car tailhousing would be closer to 130#.

Hey it was a guess. I knew they were heavier than a TH350 but I couldn't remember how much. So that price will probably go up about 10 to 15 bucks.

That $70 is correct for a standard box. The tranny will have to be properly secured on a pallet. Once you go odd shape/size on a pallet, the shipping price changes.

Check with the Grey Hound bus terminal, they ship large irregular items at reasonable costs. That tranny should be clean and dry or you could experience a problem with attempting to ship a hazardous material or its residue.

Not sure what they way, but I buy my TCI units from Summit Racing for the price and they ship by airplane to a truck terminal right beside the airport in NAshville. It cost me $75 if I pick it up and if the semi has to drive the 60 to 70 miles to my house it's $85. That's just the standard way they ship them and I'm not sure if that was a Fed Ex plane or a UPS airplane. I'm guessing it was Fed Ex cause there's a UPS terminal around on the other side of the Nash. airport and it did not go there.

Not sure if that helps any, but that's just my exp. in buying and being on the recieving side.

I'm becoming quite experienced in having gearboxes shipped across America now...

The best rate I've found is DHL. They will charge around $85 pickup to delivery (to business address). FedEx seem to be about $10 more, UPS are extremely dear. One gearbox I've bought on eBay the UPS rate was $149, and the seller refuses to send it any other way.

To say we're 'in discussion' about the issue would be understating the case. In fact, I think he's decided I can't have the gearbox because of this.

I should add that I've never tried Greyhound, but I don't think they'll deliver to the address, will they? I'm not in a position where I can pick up from a depot.

Greyhound only does terminal to terminal. I also don't think they will deliver to Australia.

I'm collecting my stuff in California ready for transhipment to Australia... we're making sure we have all the ratios and other bits and pieces Ben will need to cope with all our circuits.

Hence I've bought quite a few gearboxes, both iron and aluminum housings, some long (B/E-body) and some short (A-body). Ben's very nice black AP6 (1966) Valiant utility (pickup) is getting one too, and there's one for my ambulance when I get it.

I put a trans on a scale and it came in at 125lbs, And the DLH terminal from wabash ,IN to st. louis MO was 65.00.And if the atf was in it it went up to 250.00 for hazerdous materials transport. needless to say i met the guy half way for the drop , saved him some bucks.

What weight would be in the ATF?

I never really expected to ever find a manual gearbox heavier than an automatic, but it seems that an iron A833 is heavier than a Torqueflite.

Hi Ray,
Its the cases on the 833`s that does it,man those things are heeeeavy. Its not the weight of the fluid that drove the price up for shipping if im reading your thred right, its the fact that theres toxic chemicals in the part being shipped.
you can drain them all you want , but I gaurantee, you put that thing on its side top or bottom and itll run out , then they gig you for it anyway when they see the fluid.

I shipped a 68 383 Dart 727 from here-Grass Valley,50 miles NorthEast of Sacramento-to Pasadena, and it cost me $120 UPS. DHL said they wouldn't do it,but now I know they will. Anyway,it weighed in at 110 pounds. DHL wouldn't handle it,was another reason why I didn't go with them. UPS will handle it up to 150 pounds(or is it 125?),I can't remember. Anyway,UPS has better service.
