X Pipe or H Pipe
whats better...i dunno

The X pipe is better, better gas scavaging, and better airflow. They do sound a little different though, kinda like the 180 degree headers do.

considering that exhaust gases are the only gases that would be flowing through the X-pipe, I would hope that's what he meant...

Mopar Muscle did an article that answered this question about a year ago.
I don't remember the details but the X is better. |

Iirc, it has to do with the exhaust pulses being reflected back up the pipe to create a low pressure area in the pipe to aid in extracting the spent gases from the cylinder. Sort of a reverse blower! One of the reasons the exhaust pipe size should match the intended use. There is a formula, which I don't remember off the top of my head, but should be easily available. And yes the x is better.

The X pipe will always show a gain. Without a dyno you will never be able to design an H pipe that will work correctly. I've seen H pipes show a loss, no change, and a small gain depending on how it was set up. THe X always shows a gain though.

There may be SOME consistency with this; I heard always put the H pipe as close to the engine as possible. Wish we could dyno this...

Approx. 18 inchs is recomended.

And the H-pipe has to be tuned for it to help. properly tuned H-pipes are not setback equally on both sides.

Agree on the "X", funny Ed said that, I figured if I said it, I would be scoffed.
Oh well, yeah, X pipe needs no tuning though, so it is a win/win. |

LOL, hehe..........
I like the way my X in my dually, with aerochambers, and headers sounds. Kinda different than anythign else on the road. The raspy crackle is gone, it almost sounds european. |

Long tube headers into H-pipe, into exhaust and dumps, H-Pipe rules. X pipes designs are for low capacity, low deliverablity long tube systems.
