OK Let me get this straight ..Dodge says the 18-11-99 flash is required by epa ,federal
regulations, or carb whenever a truck comes in for service. Cummins says its required to
do this..Well SHOW ME THE MONEY!! I want to see in writing this so called regulation
that targets automatic trucks and exempts manuals from the flash. I want to see this
from DC and Cummins..or i want the program that was in this truck when it was certified
for sale in the 99 year model. Its time they put up or shut up, time to call their bluff!! I will be on the phone wednesday to both companys for this info and the if i get it i will be in touch with my congressman and see just who passed this discriminatory regulation..time they found another job in the next election.

My dealer told me that the flash was necessary on my 98 quad cab 4x4 24 valve 5 speed too. I too would like to see the law. I bought this truck for the mileage it got when new. Not the crap I get now.

Geez, guys, I was actually thinking of trading off my 92 Cummins for a 98. Now I'm thinking that I'll be holding on to it for a while. It sucks that you're all having these problems, but thanks for the posts that kind of warn the rest of us.

there is another flash that is for lack of power that
changes a lot of the specs back to what they were i`1l get the tsb# the tsb address lack of power when pulling heavy loads. i believe the reson for the recall was when the trucks were certified they passed when they went into production the epa retested them and they failed . the reason they didnt go with a cat is expense. a reg cat for a v8 or v6 is about 450-500 list price a cat cat for diesel is 1250 list price . it`s cheeper to reprogram a comuter

Here's an idea; buy a 2nd ROM chip that is unflashed. Swap the good one with the flashed one when you go to the dealer.
