Has anyone here ever swapped an unleaded engine for a diesel? I decided to go for a diesel because of the torque and the fuel economy. I want to replace the 318 in my 85 Ramcharger with a Cummins Turbodiesel this summer. Other than replacing the bellhousing on the transmission and getting rid of the ignition coil, the vapor canister, the air pump, catalytic converter, and, of course, changing the engine, the starter, and flushing the gas tank, what other changes will I need to make?

I too am looking into an upgrade to the Cummins powerplant. I do know you will have to change the radiator, figure out the AC compressor mounting and probably change front springs. My application is a '84 1 ton crew cab dually. I already have the NP 5 spd from a Cummins. This should work well with the 4.10 gears.

I have just finished swapping a Turbo diesel 5 speed into a 1980 1 ton Dually Crew Cab. If you want to know what to do, e-mail me.
