Question PT Problem

Do any of you PT owners w. the dark grey bumpers have what look like tape marks where the bumpers meet the body? My PT has these & almost every PT I look at has them too (with the exepction being the models that have the bumpers painted body color) It looks crapy & I intend to inquire @ the dealer about a recall pertaining to these ugly marks. I will update w/ any answers I get.

I am not sure if the problem you describe is due to sun and weather exposure, but ArmorAll and other companies make a product to refresh rubber coated bumpers. That might help.

i work at a dealer and have seen what you are talking about. you are the first person who has ever brought this up. and by the recalls are for saftey and emmission items. i did how ever serch the dc tsb data base and there are no tsb,s that appily for what you are talking about. what year is your PT and how many miles do you have on it. paint items are cover 3 years or 36000 miles which ever comes first.also paint items usally have to inspected by a distric manager( last 2 dealers that i have worked have been that way)

My PT is an '03, The bumpers are not painted they come on all colors of PT's.
Some models of PT's have the bumpers painted the same as body color. I wish mine was .

They talk about this on the PT boards. It was due to the process that Chrysler used to paint the bumpers and them bake them. People have repainted the gray and the tape marks will return over time. This is why when we got the wife a PT we only looked at the ones with full painted bumpers.

I had the same marks on my bumpers. The dealer replaced them
and it happened again. It is due to a chemical reaction from the
glue on the tape. When mine were replaced the tape was on less
than 24 hours. It etched it's way into the bumper. I'm going to
try and find a body shop that will be willing to paint them.

If you guys want to paint them, you may be better off looking for bumpers off of wrecked PT's or intended wreck repairs that are ment to be painted. The stock ones have the texture and may have the same results in time after you get the part painted.
