I know someone who towed an 18,000 lb trailer with a truck similar to yours. His auto tranny lasted 180,000 miles.

Wink

you are talking about a three or four horse trailer, i guess. the only thing bad about that much weight is the converter doesnt like it. not knowing how many miles you have i would start with a valve body kit to increase line pressure and then you might put a switch to manualy lock the converter just for insurance. drive it wisely and dont lug it in OD if your driving slow loaded take it out of OD youll use a little more fuel but keep from pulling through the converter.

I pull with my '93 between 10-18K' worth of trailers in stacks with a 5-speed w/o problems. The Dana did need an overhaul in Feb '00 at 169K, as the ring & pinion were gone and the axle bearings were going, but the truck does pull well. Just don't lug the truck and, like Rammer said, don't stay in OD at slow speeds. Should be no big deal!

Thumbs up

I have a '98 2500 4x4 diesel 4spd auto and tow a 34' 5th wheel. When we travel there are usually 6 in the truck and the rv fully loaded. So far, no problem. I have 35k mi on the truck and have towed 95% of that milage.
