Question

I've got a buddy that recently bought a 96 3/4 ton diesel. He has been complaining about the tall gears in the rearend. High rpms on interstate (around 2500@70mph). He has mentioned something about swapping gears for 373s or355s. Does anyone have any suggestions. He will occasionally be pulling a trailer. But the truck will primarily be a daily driver. I'd also appreciate suggestions on sourcing parts for this swap.
THANKS!

Is it an auto? If it is a 5 speed, I don't see why he might need any lower than 3.54s. Can't say I have experience with the auto.

yep he`s has 4.10`s if he has a spicer 70 you can install 3.54 no problem. if he has a spicer 80 you must also change the carrier. try a 4X4 shop, dealer is expensive

If he has a 4x4 he has the dana 80,2x4 dana 70,i have heard from 2 camps on this one says if you have an 80 the ford 373 will work, the other camp says our rearends are hybrids from dana ie built to dc's spec's and thus the 373's will not work.So if anyone knows a deffinet answer on this please post it.
