I have a 2001 2500 4x4. The best I have gottin was 15 1/2 miles to a gallon on the highway. That is with an automatic trans, 3:55 gear and 265 tires.

You have to let them break in before you see mileage increases. My 96 gets 20-21 at 70mph. Mileage is mostly affected by engine speed. My mileage drops to about 16 at 75mph. (3.55 rear)

My dad just got a new 4x4 dually. He told me he was getting about 16.5 so far. My uncle has the same truck (one year older) and I think he is getting closer to 20. Again, it all depends on how fast you drive.

mileage on your 12 valve will be better then the 24 valve. I have 30,000 on my 981/2 quad cab short box 5-speed and it still is 15 to 151/2 no matter what speed you drive. The new ones just aren't any good and Chrysler is no help. We are just supposed to bend over and take it with a smile. I gave up trying to fight them a long time ago. I can't even sell this piece of ----. No one wants it.

GREASEMONKEY - You definitely have something wrong with your truck. There are several things to check.

I have a 2001 - 4x4 - 4.10 - 5spd. Got 21.5 @70mph when I had only 6,000 miles. Gets 17.2 driving back and forth to work and around town.

Why the hell can't anyone fix it then? I have had this piece of s--- to several dealers with their so-called trained technitions and supposedly everything is as should be. Mileage is just one of the many things though. Pinion seals, wheel seals, brakes, and cruise control are just a few of the problems. This stuff should happen at 130000 instead of from 0 to 30000.

I get variable mileage in my 2001 Quad Cab short bed 2500 4x4. According to the little overhead trip computer, which is usually fairly accurate, I average around 15 mpg's in town, and about 19 on the highway at 75 mph. If I am just cruising on the highways at 55-60 mph, it shows average consumption at 22-25 mpg. The only mod I have made to it to affect mileage is dumping the 265 tires and going with 305/70's. I have the 3.54 gears in mine. I have had it just over 3 months and just turned 10,000 miles yesterday. Mileage has increased slightly since new, but is barely noticeable.

24V Cummins, auto, SLT Plus Package, with absolutely every other option available. (When paying this much for a truck, might as well get it with everything!)
Additions:
305/70R16 Cooper Discoverer AT tires
Grizzly Double Bend Chrome Side Bars
Window Vents that snap into window channel - not the peel and stick kind!

Dodgem, you definatly have a ways to go. I have a 99 and the first 10k it averaged 16-17mpg. I'm now around 21k and its closing in on 20 mpg! Put in a fitch fuel catalyst, they really help! <><

It sounds like You and I have the same great taste in trucks (same color and all).I have about 4000+ mi on mine now and it too gets about 19-20mpg at 73-75mph empty.
I'm looking in to a gear splitter to put it up over 25mpg we tow two empty horse trailers at a time and could use the splitter for the power to get us there, and the mileage on the flip side.

Had A 2000 4x4 Quad with 285 BFG's and averaged 16 to 18 mpg. Most miles were city. A straight hwy trip would net about 20. No other mods except for the tires.

The brakes sucked! 5 sets of pads in the front before 40,000 miles. Thank God for the new disc system. I've got a new RAM coming but had to go with the V10. Company pays the fuel bill.

60mph is pretty slow but that is obtainable if he only drove 60mph, empty, on cruise, and flat terrain.
you could safely count on 16to20mpg at 2000rpms and under good luck and let us know if you get it.

Hello all,
I am anxiously awaiting my ordered '01 2500 Club cab 6spd. 4x4 HO TD. I currently own a 360 Sport in a 1500. Any hints? How do the 305's wear?
