Default 89-91 360 HEADS (308 and?????)

Are all the 89 to 91 360 open chamber heads the same? Anybody know all the casting numbers if they are? I found a salvage yard that thinks they have them, just want to make sure. I know the last 3 is 308 on some.Full cast numbers could help, thanks!

They should all be the same, and all in the engines with hydraulic roller cams and EFI. EFI + hydraulic roller LA 360 engines didn't have any other heads.

302 comes to mind, although it's the number for the 5.2/318 small valve head, as I found out here not long ago. Salvage yard might assume the vehicle year is the deciding factor, and not be aware of the casting ## differences.

I hear those are the hot heads, not a production head as stated but sold as a replacement, something about W2 style exhaust or intake ports. Its on the back page of Mopar Muscle or Mopar action years ago. I remember it vividly but cant find the issue. 302's were close chambered (heart shaped) and the 308's were open chambered (round) 360 heads.

They are still similar to 308's. I bought a set when I first heard about them, around 1990. Put them together with new 1.88/1.60 valves, retainers & springs. I had 2.02/1.60 bowl blended J-heads in my 360, and I wanted to get heads that work with unleaded. So, the old heads came out, and the new hewds went in. I didn't believe the difference in the seat of the pants performance, but the timers verified that. The heads were untouched, and compared to J's they seemed to have restricted intake ports (because of the big pushrod holes bulge), and small, but well contoured exhaust ports. I don't know why, but those heads just plain worked. They were in my family car, a '73 valiant 4 d sedan with 3.23 gears, and the performance went from 14.02/100 mph to 13.26/107 mph. That is a huge difference.

Thanks for the #s, and I figure that the 360 heads BEFORE 89 aren't nearly as good as the 89 to 91s or even the J or O heads????????

Also, the pro Chevy track promoter said 1.94 valves are the limit in the pure stocks, would it be worth it to put some shortened down 1.94 valves in place of the 1.88s?

Really, not better than the swirl heads, for sure, but, as far as "J" heads? I dont think there is much of a flow/performance difference. I have a few nice looking 360 heads, from mid 80's engines. The ports actually look cleaner than the "J" heads.
