OK GANG,,Just got my ride back from Dodge garage and got a question for you all. Seems the 97 and 98 stick trucks are having a problem( or so I was told by the service writer)with a locating pin inside the front cover falling out and jamming in the cam and timing gears, cracking front cover and causing oil leaks and in the worse case senario wiping out the cam and timing gears. Any one else had their rides fall to this problem. They ( the local dealer told me Cummins and Dodge knows about it)claim there is no TSB or recall out and it seems to me that there ought to be,there are a lot of these rides around. Also for you guys working towards making your truck the beast it can be,BEWARE of the dreaded gray warranty area,I was in the middle of one.Meanwhile if your truck is set the way you want it hope that you need no warranty work, cause as I can attest to, it will be set to FACTORY DODGE SPECS,upon repairs. Oh well after repairs we are ready to continue our CONQUEST of total POWERPUKE DESTRUCTION!!! CUMMINS POWER RULES!!!!

Yes, It is a reputable dealer(bout as reputable as any dealer is nowadays),supposed to be a five star service shop.Kinda made me wonder too when he said that, that is the reason I sent the question to the forum.Ya know, as many 97/98 sticks that are out there one would only figure that someone has had or knows of someone who had cover problems besides me. If this is a problem and there is no TSB or Cummins recall out there it baffles me why service manager knows all about this problem and,we as owners do not, until they break.Seems like a cover up(no pun intended),like they are only going to worry about them if they break in warranty range, and if so, those who have the misfortune of it breaking after will have a tremendous bill, don't seem fair now does it. DODGE MAKES IT,BUT,CUMMINS SHAKES IT!!

i too am not aware of an alignment pin inside the cover, the only one i know of is in the injection pump. and the timming pin in the pump.but if you lost it you would know. unless it is something molded to the cover that is breaking off. i think they are smoking their lunch.
