slant 6 conversion to 440 motor
I have a 1984 Dodge Custom100 pickup truck with a slant 6 motor and I want to put in a new rebuilt 440 engine.
I need any advice and/or instructions anyone can give me to complete this project. |

All you need is the proper mounts, power steering pump mount, tranny and drive shaft. You should be ready to go after that. IT's pretty easy job and oyu have pelnty of room to work with too.

Any conversion is time consuming and costly. You need all of the 440 accessories, including the pulleys and kickdown linkage. A tranny for the BB, radiator and shroud, proper K-member or conversion mounts, Do you have the exhaust manifolds and will they fit the truck chassis or do you need truck manifolds? Will the BB fit in a 84 they were not available from the factory. Unless you can mock-up a complete engine and tranny ready to drop in, the conversion will not be complete or work satisfactorily. It would be more cost effective to rebuild the engine presently in the vehicle. Want more power add a blower. Preminum gas around here is close to $3.00 a gallon!!!

I went this way on my /6 to 318 Duster conversion and my 318 - 400 conversion in my '79 Dodge Magnum.
http://www.engine-swaps.com/ It worked very very well. |

A blower on a slant 6? lol. The 440 will fit. You just need the engine mounts, same thing used on any 440 truck, and hte proper power steering pump mounts. Some trucks will require a slight notch on hte frame to clear the pwr steer pump. Noto nly will manifolds fit, but headers fit even better. The stock rad should be fine as long as it's the full lenght model. The slant six is not full lenght, but most slants use the full lenght standard cooling V8 rad as it's HD model. Mine is V8 and has the HD rad for it which is too much cause with the 7 blade hd cooling fan it does not get hot enough and in 40 degree weather I can block off 85% of that rad and it still strugles to get to 185*. We put one of these 440's in a friend of mines step side. You could light the tires up going 30 in 2nd gear. IT used a TCI tranny with manual valve body too. |

In a truck the /6 to bb swap is pertty straight forward, you need the right mounts, and transmission to bolt it in, then you have to redo the engine wiring, and exhaust. Then look at the cooling and such.
I think the 84 has a "quick disconnect" kinda engine harness, so wiring should be easy enough too! |
