Honest to God this is the last drag race I was in.I've been moving across town so I rented a small 10 ft u-haul trailer,so I'm towing this thing empty behind my 78 3/4t 4wd dodge(mild 440,at,4.10s)as I'm cruising thru traffic I notice this probe gt changing lanes constantly and getting nowhere, then I notice what looks like 17' wheels and tires, obviously someone got an attitude with their car,so after a mile or 2 this probe is already at the stoplight as I approach, after I come to a stop at the crosswalk this gal pulls forward 10ft or so,well I think to myself thats a pisser who does she think she is? in a piece of crap ford(mazda actually)no less, so I anticipate the light and so does she, well we both get right after it, shes shifting like a speed demon the only problem was that I'm pulling away pretty fast, about the time she looks over and realizes I'm pulling a trailer to boot she lets off and turns right pretty quick, you know I almost feel bad handing someone that much low self esteem in one dose.not much of a race on my end though..........PRO...

I try not to street race but in town it is hard to resist sometimes and other times you have to do what you have to do. Same scenario but with little boys and their 5.0's that daddy probably bought them. Being a woman in a muscle car just brings out the boy in them I guess. What they don't know is this woman is in this car for a reason. The need for speed. By the time we get to the next light my kids are looking out the back window laughing at them waitng for them to pull back up beside Mom and her 69 Dart. My kids love it when Mom gets on her car. I have to admit most will look over and then say nice car and I reply Thank You!

Cool

Hey I resent that remark, I've had my Mopar for 20 years now and I do most of the work on it. Not because I have to but because I WANT to. If it's something I can't do, I WILL be involved in it. The only other person I'd trust under my hood is my husband. So far I've put on 2 sets of headers(alone),starters, fuel pump, alternator, clutch, waterpump, exhaust, intake, carbs, complete brake job(disc and drum)my husband did 1 wheel and left me with the manual. I've put on fenders, bumpers, gas tanks, motor mounts, radiator, fan, freeze plugs, valve covers, plugs, fuel filters, wheels, and completely took the interior out of my car, dashpad included! Not to mention took apart my own parts car. I love to drive and tinker on my car so yeah I do take offense at that remark. Oh and by the way the RR emblem is cute!

Elwenil, you have to show her the light! When I met my wife, she was a confirmed Ford driver (mostly Escorts, excuse me while I hurl) and on our first date she told me she really wanted a new Z-28! The date almost ended right there! Now, she's more fanatical than I am! Oh yeah, she can wield a wrench too, her latest was changing the valve cover gaskets on her '89 4wd Ramcharger.

Teresa you go girl! I to have the benefit of working on my own because I want to not because I have to, all the mechanics of my car I have been taught by my husband. Our love of these cars makes it enjoyable together and I have personally taken his a part 3 times this past year due to a hidden crack in the head and getting a bent exhaust valve every 1st time out he was to busy working so I would do the tear down and put back together.
But to be fair to what he said about RR emblem being cute in a way he is right. My husband looks at it this way he had a hood ornament he took to the track but when you get down to it if something needs done he knows he can count on me cause I know what to do and not mess up. I just look at it this way I am a special kind of woman who owns and drives and tinkers on the best make of car! REAL WOMEN OWN A MOPAR!!!!!!!

My wife Teri is the same! Totally MoPar. My daughter Shelby will hopefully turn out like her Mom. She's more into cars than her brother, and she's only 7! She tools around in her Mom's 1989 Shelby Lancer with an intercooled turbo 2.2. A Shelby in a Shelby!

Well this is how it is at our house...When the wife and I got married, she owned a 85 Pontiac Trans Am.She was real proud of that car.Have to give her credit for buying a high performance car.Well one day she comes up while we were dating and says that her poncho will give my 70 Road Runner a run for it's money.Right!!After the poncho went in for new doors,I told her that next time she wanted a piece of the "Bird" she had better get a oxygen bottle from work(she's a nurse) to hook up to that poncho,'cause the Bird will suck all the 02 from the air and leave that poncho breathless. She didn't learn the second time either. We bought a brand new 93 Jeep Cherokee with the 6cyl. and it tore the ol' poncho up-bad.I told her it's "Mopar or no car" in our family, and has been ever since.

PRO, your story reminds me of one a friend of mine's dad told me years ago. He was towing their stock car one day when he came to a light. At the light sat a car, I don't remember the make or model. The guy in the car was revving the engine waiting for the light to change. My friend's dad revs up his old Dodge pickup and they go at it from the light. They raced for a couple of blocks with the Dodge pickup getting the better of the surprised car driver. He to turned off immediately. Imagine the surprise when bested by a Dodge pickup pulling a stock car with a hill side hemi. The pickup had 4.11 gears and loved the rpm.

My new wife's car is a Pontiac Grand AM and she likes to drive it hard. But if I can get her to learn to drive stick she already wants my 95 Neon SOHC. It drives like a bottle rocket. Thats only if I cant buy her the Jeep Grand Cherokee she wants. Oh and I told her no more Grand Am's they are a pain in the A$$ to work on. So again another family is Mopar or no car.

Cool

Its funny to here you guys talk about drag racing your wives, cause I have a similiar story...

One night I "happened" to be on our local cruising spot at about midnight or so in my '69 Dodge Polara (383 2 barrel 4 door). And lo and behold here comes my wife up next to me in her '87 Dodge Colt. She had gotten off work early and busted ass to catch up to me at the stop light. So were sitting there side by side and she gives me the :come get some" gesture (we all know it) and proceded to rev her engine up. So, thinking this little rice burner has no chance against "the tank" (it was green), I built it up against the converter and prepared to launch. So the lght turns green and she does about a 5 grand clutch dump and pulls ahead of me. Right about then the big block comes into its own and I start to slowly pass her. I was racing in drive so I was casually looking over at her, critting her teeth banging gears way way past the red line. The litle colt was really jumping around, squeeling the tires and looking like it was possessed!! The Polara came through in the end (just barely) and my wife and I had a good laugh when I got home.

So my wife has a little racing bug in her somewhere - although she hates going to the race track. The first time she drove my car she couldn't stall it out all the way (4500 stall) since she couldnt get the gas pedal all the way to the floor (she's about 5-2). So launches it and she's flyin down a country road and gets it up to about 100 or so (I'm scared now) and passes a farmer on a tractor, and flies past a farmers vegetable stand (I'm sure they saw my "DARTMAN" license plates). She's fearless!!

Maybe I can get her a nice Dart someday?
