Default Ok, best intake/carb combo for my fresh 318

Ok guys, I was on here a few months ago, after my 318 blew its crankshaft bearings...and now, 5 months and 6k later(yes yes, I know, a bit much for a 318), Im in need of a good combo for a 4 barrel and intake. The car itself, running with a mild Comp Cam and its stock 2 barrel hauls like you wont believe....but its still not enough. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Iam not sure what you got for your $6,000.00, but assuming 318 heads an Edelbrock Performer with either a 570 cfm or 670 cfm Holley Street Avenger carb with an electric choke should work well. If you're bucks down and you don't mind the weight of a cast iron intake, a stock 360 intake [use 360 gaskets] with a Thermoquad works much better than you might expect and gets decent milage to boot. Good luck.

Best set up for your car is the Weaind 8007 with a stock 800 cfm Thermoquad. Intake flows well and the carb has the best throttle response of any other carb with plenty of top end.

Thanks for the suggestions. As 5spdcuda mentioned...yes, 6k was waaaaaay too much for a rebuild, but at the same time, the damn thing runs like you wouldnt believe.

Me? I agree with the edelbrock, or the weiand action plus. But, let me throw in a curve ball. If your cam is mild, and you feel like some minor carb tuning, a offenhauser dual port, and a 600cfm edelbrock performer, will give you unbelievable response down low, and a strong single plane feeling midrange. No need to go over 600cfm with a 318. Other small port single planes work nicely on the 318 too. (street dominator)(torker 318).... When running a small port head, there is no need for a dual plane manifold, IMO.

Well what about a demon 625 with a edelbrock air-gap intake? Would that be a decent combo? At this point, Im not too concerned on cost, just as long as Im not hitting the 1k mark.

If you have small port heads, the air gap isn't for you, it is a big port manifold. There is nothing wrong with the demon 625, other than again, with the small port heads, you wont see a huge difference with it. If head upgrades are in the future, then by all means, get the manifold and carb for it! But if you plan on sticking the way it is, small port manifold, and metering rod carb will give you the best all around kick, IMO.

With small heads and mild cam, I would agree with the suggestions of a Performer or the split port Offie. The Performer will easily handle up to 350hp, so it will be plenty big and give good port velocity.

The Weiand 8007 is a horrible manifold on any small block IMHO.

The air gap and other big head port size are all way bigger than you need and will kill the bottom end.

Tim-Sorry to hear about your old motor- I have a recommendation for you 318. I have an edelbrock LD4B that is made for the smaller ports on your 318 I can make you a good deal on.
Give me an email(gibw340@aol.com)-I live not far near Frederick, MD.

In case anyone wonders about the Weiand 8007 as a performance manifold, perhaps you would be interested in what people who sell them have to say about them: recommended performance level, "very mild"

And TK are right on.

The Edelbrock LD4B is literally the LD340 for the small 273/318 ports. I have 4 of them myself - haven't used them yet. I keep converting to 340/360 heads. Maybe someday I will get around to it. They are easier to find than LD340's.

Use that with a 600 Holley or 625 Edelbrock with electric choke will work well.
