not much to talk about... I know... buT... A while back.. I was in a 92 or 93 dodge spirit 4 banger with the turbo. I pulled up to a light alongside a snazzy camaro. The guy grinned at me and started revvin the engine. I went with it. The light turned green and I stomped that lil car. He did too.... while he was sittin there grindin through the gears. I beat him until the next light. where we then did this AgAiN. he couldn't take me with his cuh-cuh-camaro. oh well.. it was fun.

Wink

That would be the '93 Spirit R/T Turbo with 224 HP that you are referring to. They are a high 14-second car and make the (almost) ultimate sleeper.

Probably '91 or '92 Spirit R/T, DC didn't make them in '93... I'd love to get my hands on one of those, but don't feel like changing the timing belt every month...heh

Oh, yeah, that's right. I researched and it was '91 and '92.

I seen one for sale somewhere on the 'net lately, it was a red one and only wanted like $3500.
I'm 25 and wouldn't mind driving one 'cause they are a nasty sleeper. I could clean some serious import clock around here with it. They ran mid 14's in the qaurter.
Here some good info I found on them on a site:

"Underhood, as always, is where the biggest changes were made. The engine is a 16-valve intercooled 2.2 liter, known as the Turbo III. The head was jointly designed by Lotus and was Chrysler's first four valve configuration. The bottom end is carried over from the 'true' Turbo II, but balance shafts were added to reduce buzziness and shakes. Maximum boost was set at 11 psi. The result of this hardware is a smooth 224 hp at 6000 and 217 lb-ft at 2800. Redline is set at 6500 with a fuel cutoff at 6700. The engine was backed by a 5-speed which was redesigned for increased smoothness; an automatic was not offered.

With all this hardware underhood the R/T was certainly a surprise at the stoplights. Weighing in at just over 3150 pounds, the R/T could scorch from 0 to 60 in 5.8 seconds. The quarter mile flashed by in 14.5 seconds at 97 mph; top speed was 141. This performance gave Dodge some impressive bragging rights! "

Why is it that cars with similar goodies (intrepid 3.5L) (217 HP, like 217 ft-lbs Tq) are so much slower? ITs only about 300 lbs heavier, and has wider wheels on it, yet runs mid 15's. Its like i saw the AUDI TT in a magazine, and it was running 14.6's with the same weight, but a 6 speed manual trans. Is it jsut conservitive gearing on the intrepid or am i missing something?
