Default Brake Sys woes??

Here is the history: The car is a 71 Dart Swinger. When I first got the car it had the small Bolt pattern disks up front which I changed to the Large pattern. After the swap the rear brakes would lock up before the fronts engaged. I put on a new Master Cylinder and this did not fix the problem. I then installed a valve on the line to the rear and that somewhat solved the problem, it stopped the rear from engaging before the fronts anyways.

Fast Forward to this week. The Brake Booster was slowly going out and finely did. I replaced the booster and re adjusted the valve to insure the front brakes engaged before the rears locked up.

The Problem: It seems the first 1\3 of the peddle does nothing, the last 1\8 of the peddle has all or most of the stopping power and is super sensitive. I can not really lock up the fronts.

Any Suggestions.

Thx Ted

Sounds like you might not be getting all the air out of it. Make sure to center that adjuster so there is plenty of fluid going to the rear under pressure when you bleed the brakes. You may also want to check that little screw in ball adjuster between the master and the booster. IT may be out too far keeping the port in the master to the rear half covered up so it's not moving any or enough fluid. I'd check those to things first and see what you come up with.

Default Changes

Affect braking. You have changed the caliper volume by going to big pattern discs. This requires that you also change the proportioning valve that corrects for front/rear balance issues. You will need to give your front and rear brake dimensions to a brake system supplier and get the correct prop valve. I suggest MP Brakes at mpbrakes.com.
