Default TQ question

I have a new TQ on my teen and it seems to be working well everything from idle to 2nds coming in. I am using a jacobs pro street and with its mass fire power, and the required pull of my extremly highway gears the engine goes kinda lean (pre ignition) just before the 2nds kick in. I need to richen the carb up a bit on the run circuit side and I remember reading about doing this by adjusting the meterimg rods. How do I do this? Carb is set up stock like a stock 340 carb. Thanks.

That's pretty easy and you can do it several ways. Smaller mettering rods will richen it up as well as bigger jets. IF it's just a mild thing you can adjust the vacuum piston screw to raise the rodds up out of the jet to richen it up. What number TQ do you have? The newer ones tend to run leaner than the older ones and need a slight adjustment for that reason.

If you can lay your hands on the May 98 issue of Mopar Muscle, Steve Dulcich did a great (meaning understandable by me ) article on the TQ. Including how to baseline the metering rod settings. I won't try to repeat them here cause I'll get it wrong, but clockwise turns of the center slotted piston screw that lifts the metering rod yoke will richen the mix. Be gentle here!! Unfortunately FSM's won't tell you anything about this adjustment due to emissions regs, I guess. If these adjustments won't do it for you, then the smaller rod fix is next, as DWC says. I believe you've already said your carb is an early big-block unit, so the rods/jets shouldn't be too lean, but if it's a reman, (except demonsizzler's) there's no telling what got put in there.

Don't know what TQ you have or what engine its on, but i got one 2 weeks ago, its a Tomco rebuild, i got lucky, its a 6518S non-emission, it had the 1966 rods, .098 front jets & .137 rear, it was very lean, "ping city" on my 440, you will most likely have to get smaller rods, i ended up jetting mine to .104s & .149s, its a screamer now

Yeah man David is the man whan it comes to the TQ and prices are way better than new carbs. I bugged the rap out of him when I got this thing so i figured on knocking out all the small stuff on my own. For adjusting this carb which way do I adjust the vacum piston screw. It just needs a small tweek. Thanks again!!!
