Thumbs down Bridge to Terebithia, snuff flick for kiddys?

Just saw this movie tonight with my kids, don't read any further if you don't want to know what happens.
It starts out real nice as a local kid makes friends with a new girl who just moved in. They both have great imaginations and have wonderful fantasy adventures,at times you think the movie is going to be like The Chronicles of Narnia.
Unfortunetly , the fantasy scenes are sparse and secondary to the movie. After doing a wonderful job of creating this friendship between this young boy and girl, they kill off the girl in a senseless accident.
It was totally stupid, I was glad my kids were older, there were some young children crying in the theatre as well as a few of the older ladies as well.
NOT what I expected in a child's film and I honestly believe it is too disturbing for younger children.
I read the reviews that raved about it, but their idea of entertainment is apparently different than mine. You don't make a movie like this for little children. If I had known previously what was to happen, I wouldn't have bought the tickets.
Totally inappropriate.

I think they left the movie so they can have a sequel, but I liked it, so did my 11 an 9 year old daughters(only one cried).Even though it was a good movie if I had know the outcome of it I would have waited for the video.
