Default cable shifters

I'm seriously considering a cable shifter from IDIDITINC.com. My 727 has no proper brackets for the torque bar that connects the column shifter to the tranny. I guess they could be made, but I'm concerned about header clearance issues. I'm either going with TTI or Dougs for this '71 Demon project. Any feedback from you guys is welcome. Any experiences?
Ron

I installed a very cheap B&M shifter in my Duster and clearance is not a problem with the regular Hooker headers.

only one I have seen is the B&M and I think the bracket attaches to the pan rail. No problems on the car I worked on, but it only had duals off the stock manifolds.

Yeah,I would go with the B&M shifter, and I would suggest getting the heavy duty cable, if the cable is close to any heat , headers, exhaust etc. the lighter cable will fail alot quicker, I put two regular cables in my charger, and finally put the heavy duty in and I have been inspecting it regularly and it's holding up, it's a real bummer to be out cruising or to try to make a run and hammer gears and the cable turns to spagetti the shifters are great but the standard cables I don't feel are built for everyday use like I need.

I also use a B&M shifter with a set of heddman headers. No big issues other than making sure the cable is routed away from any exhaust parts; I use some heat wrap on my cable for added insurance.

i too have been stranded by a melted shift cable.
to prevent shifter cable meltdown on my rig, i slit some high quality rubber fuel line, slipped it over the cable, zip-tied the hose to keep it in place, and routed the whole thing as far away from my hedmans as possible. no more worries.

Charger Dan I also had problems with my cable melting and did the exact same thing as you did....That did the job.

There are at least 2 different shifters that use a rear mounted cable (toward the seat as opposed to the firewall) that pushes the selector lever into gear. It mounts up from the tailshaft side of the selector lever and usually is alot easier to route away from the hot stuff.
