Angry 472 hemi build problem

I just learned that my 472 crate hemi that i bought a year ago may have a defect with push rod clearance. I called mopar tech line and they said there is a possible build problem they know of out of the canadian plant which is now closed. I asked why there is no bulletin on this and the guy I talked to, not very help full and uninterested in helping me, did not know. I now have to take the intake manifold off and check the push rods for ware. I am posting to get the word out and to ask if anyone has seen this problem which can be devastating if not corrected. mopar also told me that they would not pay for the fix even though they built the engine incorrectly. Thats pretty poor support. I am also wondering what the fix will be if I have the problem?

Welcome to the board.

Instead of pulling the intake why not back the adjusters off one at a time and remove each pushrod to inspect for wear?

MP phone support is notoriously poor, I imagine the fix would involve enlarging the pushrod holes in the head.

Nothing new. MOPAR has had very poor quality on their crate engines.

i agree with john...then you can see where the push rods are chaffing on the block and determine where you have to clearance the block...if its chaffing...maybe you will get lucky and have no problems

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I'm new here, and I searched for this issue..

The same thing happened to me with my new 472 crate Hemi. We clearanced the valve covers and have had no problems since, but what a pain..

Just tonight I was listening to a video on YouTube of a 472 in a 63 Dodge, and the engine had the exact same drivetrain noise mine started with.

When I called MP "tech line" they told me they've NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. I said "That's strange, since people all over the web are talking about it". He basically called me a liar and told me to "double up on my cork gaskets".

Nice fix.

I believe the original post was about pushrod clearance issues where they pass through the heads. Your issue seems to be related to rocker arms hitting the valve covers. Is that correct?
