Default 8 3/4" Rear axle Seals

How deep should the rear axle seal be installed ??? I am thinking that it should be the depth of the seal or should it be set back in as far as possible ??? Thanks, Jack

There is a lip in the housing, that the seal bottoms against.

That's how far in it should go.
