Default What Valve Springs?

I am looking at buying a Mopar Performance Purple Cam, what type of springs should I use. The motor, a 360 with 308 heads, will be a street driven, around .460 lift, advertised 280 duration. The summit site which I have been looking on offers Edelbrock & Crane springs but what is right for a mild cam like mine? I don't want too stronger springs as it could wipe off a lobe, top engine speed will be around 6000 rpm but only in the lower gears. I haven't seen much on valve springs and was suprised that MP didn't have a recommendation.

MoPar does have springs for your purple cam. Give me the exact part number of the cam. Your cam specs do not line up with anything in the book.

The 280* cam comes with a different lift.

With a mild cam and reasonable lift the standard 340 high performance springs should be ok. Be carefull as not all aftermarket springs will work with stock retainers. I used some edelbrock springs on a 318 and had to buy special retainers. Have seen alot of purple 284 474 lift cams running on the factory hi-po springs.

Does the manufacturer of the cam list the spring requirements, my Hughes cam has a cam card giving me the valve spring pressures for closed and open positions.

BBDude, MoPar lists what valve spring to use with there cams. It just helps to know what cam is in there. His lift vs. duration doesn't come up in any of there cam listings. He may be confused, but once he knows the correct duration and lift of his cam or part number, Mopar has the springs for him.

I think the Crane springs work with the stock retainers and a 1.7" install height. If you have a valve spring micrometer, you can check what the install height is without shims. Also check the inner step diameter of the retainer, some spring inside diameter do not match up.
For example, the Hughes 1101 valve springs require their retainer for this reason, plus they install at 1.65".

Gottcha. He could use a Crane without problem. Actuall lift would be the key.
