Default fuel filter placement

What is the preferred method of fuel filter placement with a electric fuel pump, before the pump or after the pump?

The Filter would go between the gas tank and the fuel pump. To protect the fuel pump. The Bigger the Better, Hope this helps. Jack

As electric fuel pumps are pushers (not pullers), you should have a small pre-filter before the pump and a larger (smaller micron) filter after the pump.

If it doesn't restrict flow too much, one filter before the pump is all that's needed.

You should probably take Aeromotives guide as gospel. I think they know a thing or two about fuel systems. The recommendation is a 100 micron filter before the pump and a 10 micron filter after the pump.

A heavey filter before the pump will cause more pressure drop and lower GPH than a heavy filter after the pump.

Which is the "finer filter" 100 Micron or 10 Micron ??? I put a Professional Products "Powerflow" 10 Micron 160 GPH @ 7 psi between the fuel cell and the Electric Pump. I have a Carter pump that is I believe 72 GPH . The engine is a 440 . Is it Really necessary to have 2 filters ???

The “finer filter” would be the 10 micron filter. A 10 micron filter traps particulates all the way down to 10 microns (at 90 whatever percent efficiency); a 100 micron filter only traps particulates down to 100 micron

The purpose of two filters is a the 100 micron before the pump to protect it and not hamper the pump and the 10 micron after the pump, to finish the job.
