sb to bb whats it take
I'm kinda tossing around the idea of building a 400 or a 440(of which I have both as cores to rebuild)the problem is this. I was born in 79 my cars of choice until I sold my last one was of the 2.2 turbo era. My Dad is a Mopar Muscle lover and has both a 74RR and a 71Cuda' convertable the only problem is he has never swapped a sb for a bb.
I figure the best thing to do is tell you what the car has a you tell me what I need to do to make it happen. I do see schoemaker(spelling?) has mounts but there has to to be more to it like the dist being moved up front and what not. it's a 340 833-4speed pistol grip car non#matching non ac car Just make a list and I'll check it twice Thanks Guy's at this point it's big block or a 340/416 stroker. To go to the B/RB engine, you will need the correct motor mounts (the K-member is the same). If you keep the 833, you will need the correct bellhousing. The torsion bars will be fine for straight line racing. If you plan on doing a lot of driving, I would recommend larger torsion bars. The exhaust system won't mate, The under hood wiring harness will need minor modifications, as the distributor is at the other end of the engine.
I would either build the 340 or sell it to someone that will. There is no real need to stroke a 340. They are rare and can be rather powerful. |

It is fairly basic,as ed says.
I'm not sure what I'd do here. A 73 was the last 340, so you have a fairly desireably B body( a 340 4 gear runner) I would think the best plan would be a clone type build. Where you build a stroker SB,(not your's, a 360 block) and keep the 340 under the bench till you decide you want the car original again. The car still looks original, and you can beat it without worry of throwing a rod through the side of the original block. With the BB in there, it will be fast, but you'll get ribbed about taking the 340 out. With the stroker sb, noone will know the difference. |

Good input so far, I love big blocks and I changed from 318 to 440 in a charger, motor mounts, and I would strongly suggest the bigger torsion bars, big block bell housing and flywheel, and a larger radiator and hoses, new exhuast system, pulleys are different, and brackets for power steering and alternator also are different, go for it.

All RR regarless of year should have a BB - 400 stroked to 451, 10.5CR, Eddy heads w/ some mild porting, RPM intake, 750 mighty demon carb, cam in the 245@50 range 550lift, street/strip 7 qt pan, 3500 TC, 3.91 gears.
Get in, buckle up, shut up, Hang on |

I know the car moved nicely enough to blow away mustangs the way it was and that was before I knew the secondaries on the car started to bind halfway open. And even though I do have the factory 14" rally wheels the tires will smoke half way into 3rd and still chirp in 4th. I think Ill keep the 340 |
