Default TC question

I have a "2500" stall converter, behind a 390 SB, it is more of a 2900 stall. Problem is, it is too lose before I get on the throttle. This is in a trailer pulling one ton.
Is there a way to make a converter feel like a stock one, until you really get on it?

I ust don't want it to take off at 2000, when I am barely on the throttle.

Who makes it? Is it a cheappie? Maybe you can get it re-stalled. I have a 3500 that feels stock till you mash on it. But they co$t.

Converters can be built to be "tight" or "loose" and have the same stall speed. It's all about the internal construction, once it's built a particular way there's no way to tighten it without disassembly.

That's why I keep preaching that there's no such thing as a 2500 converter or a 2900 converter, it all depends on the power input.

Well, they estimated 2500, so I was making more torque than we thought.

It was a local built converter, I think I will ask him if he can tighten it up some, or give him another.

How big is the converter? Too small of a housing in a 1 ton truck is gonna slip too much causing heat.

Gee, I dunno, it's a stock size converter..............the one that came in it stock.

I also have a MONSTER cooler now, and a fan will be going on it soon..

He says he can easily build me another one, half price, and I keep my old one for a car. Don't get me wrong, it works great, just is a bit too loose for me.

Even a bone stock factory 11" converter is well capable of 2900 stall speed, if the converter was built with the hi-stall stator it will seem loose under load at part throttle.

Here is the idea we came up with today.

I have a /6 converter, that is a higher stall than the one that came in 318 trucks, and bigger engines. We are going to use that converter, and he is going to tweak it some, he thinks that will end up being about 2200 on this engine.
He said the stock converters on these things, are braised so damn good you cant tweak them much.

The converter I have now, is a aftermarket hi stall front on my stock converter back.
