Thermostat and radiator cap
What temp. thermostat should I be using in my 68 GTX 440? For years I always thought it was better to run without one. But lately I've had a few people tell me it's better to run with one. I assume it's a flow issue. Also I've just noticed my radiator cap hisses after I shut the engine off after a cruise. What p.s.i. cap should I use. It's a 26 inch 3 row radiator with a 6 blade fan and a shroud. Thanks...Mark

I believe the original stat was 180°. Running without a thermostat subjects your engine to lengthy warm ups which could allow a buildup of acids and condensation. It can also leave the choke on longer which wastes fuel.
The engine was designed to run in a particular heat range. Anything above or below that is not a good thing. As far as the pressure cap, I can't remember, but a radiator shop could probably tell you |

16lb cap. You need to run a thermostat or water won't absorb enough heat from block.
