Default 440 Preformer RPM intake?

The Performer RPM intake on my 440 "70 Cuda is just a little to close to the hood. Has anyone every milled some stock off the carb mounting pad to gain some more clearance? I really don't like the look of the lower Performer manifold but I could really use at least 1/2" more clearance. I'm not even sure if it's possible to mill that much off this manifold.

Default clearance, Clarence

Have you considered that you will reduce the low end torque at the lower height? How much room do you have? Maybe a lower air cleaner will solve the issue. You did not say what the present clearance is, so I'm guessing here.

I have the same manifold on my 440 GTX and the same problem with the unsilenced air cleaner. My local NAPA let me sniff around his selection of air filters. I found one that was the same diameter but not as tall. I picked up the clearance I needed that way. Mark

There are some good drop base air cleaners out there. I used to use a 2" drop in my 64 before I put the scoop on. 440 with rpm manifold.

I don't think you will be able to mill much off. my .02
