Default how much hp will it take?

hello to everyone. I need to know how much hp will i need to get a 72 dart into the high 11's.I am going to stroke the 360 or the 340 i have. The car has a 8.75 rear with 4.88 gears 727 trans and a 3500 stall i have a torker 2 intake 850 DP. If anyone has a recipe for a for a high 11 sec engine that would be great. This is going to be a street car i will take it to the track intill i get into the 11's.

I ran mid 11s with my 360 13to1 kb 191 hypereutectics witha 565 585 split cam ,more exhaust as iron heads are a little sluggish. I ran 457 gears and set rev limiter at 7200 and had to pedal the last 200 feet so you might want to back off to 430 gear unless you are building a high r motor. I ran polished stock rods so I got nervous at 7000 Everything was port matched with a 40 thousandht Quench. 750 holley race tuned on a victor intake Oh I may have gotten away with the 457s but I ran a 26x10.5 slick. Hope this helps.

My 71 Scamp runs 11.80 with a 360. The engine has KB107 pistons,MP508 cam. Carter 625 or 750 cfm carb.(11.97 with the 625,11.80 with the 750)Stock heads with 1.88 valves.

The car uses 3.91 gears, 26in MT slicks, electric water pump,3500 stall Hughes converter with a 904 transmission.I am still running a single point distributor.

Your car should be in the mid elevens as it sits, with a good tune.

A street car with 4.88's? Ever thought of getting yourself a 3.23 rear that you can use on streets when you're not at the track? They're pretty easy to swap...

Ditch the 4.88s for 3.91s (4.10s at most) w/ 26-27"dia slicks and pinion snubber.
360 cast crank, SIR or Eagle rods, forged Ft pistons, block decked for zero deck height, edelbrock LA heads 63cc w/ roller rockers, .040 hd gasket to give you good quench and compression in the 10.5 range so actual 9.5 for the street on pump gas, Airgap intake or your torquer, solid or hydraulic cam in the 240/246@.050 range with .550" vlift, good machining with attention to clearances, good ignition like MSD6al and wires, 3/8 - 1/2" fuel system with 150gph pump, and a good set of headers. Should get you into the mid-high 11s and still be very stretable.
Pm me if you want more detailed info on my build etc.
Have fun.

Thanks everyone, I all ready have a good fuel pump with 1/2 inch lines. I also have a pinion snuber. I have a set of 2.02 J heads, I do not want to go to a set of Edelbrock heads and i want to run on pump gas. So are you guys saying I do not need to stroke my engine?

We,ve all done it without stroking. Around 400 to 425 horse will put you in the elevens
