Holley 2210
I was wondering what you guys can tell me about the Holley 2210 carb. It's going on a 1964 Newport with a 383 which originally ran the stock Stromberg WC3, which has since kicked the bucked. My dad inherited the 2210 from my grandfather with the car, and used it for awhile but said it really didn't perform as well as the Stromberg. However its here still and I'd just like to get the old girl running so I can move her around. The carb had 38 jets when I tore into it to rebuild, and I'm wondering if jetting it up a little might not be a bad idea. I'm no carb expert, I can rebuild one just fine but don't know much about what jetting works well for what. From my uninformed point of view, 38 seems a bit lean for an engine of this size.
Thanks. |

If youre just wantin to move the car around the yard or something, bolt it on & fire it up. The 2bbl setups really are a dog on these motors, maybe find a stock 68' up squarebore iron intake, or later spreadbore intake & use an Edelbrock 600 or 750 for the squarebore intake, and a Thermoquad off of a 400 for the spreadbore intake. Either setup will run much better AND get better mpg, that is if you can stay outta the secondaries! Dont waste your $ on aftermarket aluminum intakes that resemble the stock 4bbl intake. They will run/ perform exactly the same, and the only real benefit is that they weigh less than the iron intake.

Well the cincher is I'm not really sure where I put the damn jets. I set them aside somewhere when I tore the carb apart a couple months ago, then finals hit and it sat for a while and I'm not sure where they are. Everything else is there. The lazy part of me wants to justify the $6 for a new pair by saying it'll work better and I'm just wondering if it actually will.

I think fate has intervened on behalf of your 383! If you're interested in keeping the car "stock", put the original carb back on. If you want a fun, reliable driver hit the junkyard, swapmeet or ebay for the 4bbl intake. Just my opinion here.

I put a 2210/2245 (from a 360) on a 318 in my 74 Dart, rejetted it down a little, and it ran great, but I lost 1 mpg, went from 22mpg to 21. The old BBD just did not like Idaho winters which led me to putting on the bigger 2BBL and the appropriate intake manifold. Taking one from a 360 to put on a 383 might work well if you are looking for good mileage. I would think one from a 400 would be just right for a bit better performance. So find out what jets were in a 400 and go from there.
