Default What size stall convertor

Hey guys I have a quick question for the experts in here. My buddy has a 440 with I believe a 750 eddy carb and 10.5 - 1 dome pistons. He just finished putting in a mopar performance cam .284 / .284 duration with a .484 / .484 lift, the engine last year was completely rebuilt. He has a new 727 tranny and I believe with a 2400 stall convertor. He says ever since he put this size cam in his car isn't acting right when driving. I mentioned that he prolly should have gone with a 3000 stall or maybe a little higher with this size cam. What size convertor would you guys recommend?and do you think the 2400 is not enough for this size cam? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. He wants to get this corrected by fathers day so he can cruise to the Fathers day Car show in Hermitage,Pa

Default We need

More info on what is not acting right. What does that mean? Seems to me that a 2400 stall convertor should work well with that combo. What axle ratio does he run?

If he has the old 284/.484" cam with narrow lobe separation angle, it would lilke to see more stall speed than 2400 for good performance. That cam in a 440 with a single plane and headers, propably has the torque peak rpm at well above 4000 rpm. It's a question of how much are you willing to compromise the performance. Go at least with a 10" converter, but I would order a 9.5" converter from PTC.

I had the same cam in my 440 Cuda with a 727 and 3:91 gears, and a 10 inch converter with 3500 stall worked really well. Really livened things up. Fun Fun.
