Default 440 Header Bolts

I'm getting ready to fire up for the first time my 440 (496, actually) powered `67 Plymouth. It's got Edelbrock aluminum heads and TTI headers. I installed the headers with the bolds that came with them. But I seem to remember reading (somewhere) that the end header bolts need to be replaced with studs as they extend into the water passages. I'm thinking that this would be needed with the original 440 heads but not on the Edelbrocks. Rather correct a problem - if it is a problem - before firing the engine up.

Anyone know if studs are needed with the Edelbrock heads?

Thanks,

Steve

All of the studs go into water jackets, on the iron heads. End studs help to get the headers on and aligned, so you don't strip any of the other threads.

No need for sealer on the exhaust bolts on Edelbrock B.B. heads , the holes are dry .

Dry or not, studs on the ends are a great way to hang those headers on install. They are also a superior way to mount just about anything, youll never strip a bolt hole out, that is for sure--especially in aluminum. It is rather tough to get nuts on the studs behind a header bend though...

Studs on the ends for alignment as for the other holes it depends on the way the tubes are bent on TTI headers. If you can use them do so.

Studs will make life easier, as Uncle Mike said, if they work with your headers and engine bay, use them

whichever fasteners you go with,
don't forget the anti-seize compound
with those alum. heads.

Carb studs wont work....the ones I have seen are all 5/16 studs, you need 3/8 studs on the end two bolts. You need a good stud with 1 3/4" sticking out of the head, depending on flange thickness and gasket thickness, possiably 1 1/2". I would try to source out some fine thread on the ends too, they will have a little better anti stripping.
