Default Rear Brake Backing Plates

My car is a 62 Plymouth 2 dr Savoy . It was a Roller when I bought it and you could say it was a Basket Case . I am putting the rear back together and I notice the backing plates are different . There is a right and left But the One for the passenger side is different. The rear end is a 68 or 69 B-Body . I don't remember if the backing plates came with that rear housing . Question is does that matter ??? Should I get a Matching Set ??? Or What ???

I would think they should be the same so brake hardware, shoes, drums, adjusters etc. would be same for both sides.

Default Agreed

But, what is the difference? Is it diameter or spring layout or cylinder holes?
I don't ever recall seeing different ones from side to side, either.

if you notice, the top pivot peg is different. ive run into this kind of problem before. if i were you, id use a straightedge and micrometer to make sure the axle flange to brake shoe rub surface is the same on both, as well as the backing plates being the same cross measurements from rub point to opposite rub point. that way you know they are the same, with just cosmetic differences.

reason i learned all this, i had one big bolt 10 inch backing plate and one small bolt (2 1/2 vs 2 inch), with big bolt drums. pulled all the stuff from a stack at my buddys house. looked close enough, until nothing fit. wound up measuring, and finding the difference.

Also, the hole that the parking brake cable snaps into is on oppsite sides when comparing the Right to the left.

Yup, I Will Get a Matching Set later. Right Now I am going to install the backing plates and drums with no shoes or anything just so I can move it outside and put the engine in before the weather turns to Crap .
