Torsion Bars Won't Go In ???
Must Be My Day for Things that Won't Go In . Installing Torsion Bars . I Know I Pounded them Out . But with All the Crud and Rust Removed I Figure They Should Go In Relatively Easy . I have Rebuilt the Entire Front End . And Everything Seems OK . But Those Torsion Bars Will Not Go. I Wrapped a piece of aluminum around the Bar and Clamped Two Vice Grips on and Pounded on them . But They Just Don't Seem Like They are Going to Go ???

Same prob once before on mine. Is your front suspension completely unloaded? Move the lowers up and down while your friend taps them in. also is your K member on jack stands or is the front frame behind the tires holding up the front end? Mine would not go in with the front frame rails supported, the front end seemed to sag a bit and that was enough interference to cause the bars to NOT go in easily. I jacked up and supported the front K, put a big set of channel locks on the socket, and moved it up and down to find the sweet spot. They slid in like buttah....

The front suspension is Completely unloaded . I have blocks under the K member and I have a 4x4 under the trans mount frame But with Very Little weight on it like I can move it a bit. It's mainly a Back Up support for Safety I'll see if my Wife can move the control arms up and down but I doubt she can .

Make sure the rubber bump stop is not installed. The control arm needs to completely hang down. There's a "finger" on the lower pivot(that the adjuster nut matches up with) that can be finessed with a large screwdriver while working the bar in.There is also a left and right bar.

Remove the blocks under the K frameand trans mount. Resupport the car with jack stands only. Then you'll have an unloaded suspension that will hang like it is supoosed to.
That should do it. |

Sometimes the lug on the control arm that the t bar goes in moves and isnt tight to the adj bolt in the control arm, I have used a channle lock on that part to get it indexed right and it seems to allow the bar to go right in when I do that. Its like the adjuster bolt is holding it from going easily, I hope I explained it to you right, Im not the best at that.

I had to have a buddy lift and push down the control arm so that the hex hole was properly aligned to receive the torsion bar. Once we had that lined up, mine went in easily. Even with powdercoating. You may need a bar to pry it around.
