1/4 et
Ran my 66 Coronet at the strip this evening for the first time.
I rebuilt a 440 last winter, has a CH28 with 2 Edelbrock 600's, mild Huges cam, magnum exhaust manifolds & 2 1/4 pipes, automatic with 3.23 gears and skinny 28 inch tall street tires. Best out of five was 13.62 at 101.5. I know I could've gotten 13.50's, I was just getting used to it, then it got too dark. I'm happy with it though. I know 4.10s and headers would do wonders for it. I might have to save a little cash this winter |

I think you also need a bigger exhaust. The pipes I'm going to put on my 318 Duster are going to be 2 1/2" so I won't have to get a whole new exhaust system when I put in a bigger engine (360...?). I think you have huge potential from the carburetion setup, but you're corking it with the manifolds and especially the tiny exhaust.

Sweet. You could run with those F.A.S.T. guys! That is a slick looking car! I love it.
I've heared of guys using bias plys in the back, because they don't get as much spin? Is that true? |

Propably true, you can play a little with bias ply tire pressures, while radials with their stiff construction do not like that. I believe the quickest FAST (factory appearing, stock tire) cars run in the 1.6's at 60 ft, and 1.7's are fairly common with the old polyglas tires, and no traction devices. My best 60 ft with 205/75/14 radials in a BB A-body was 1.938. I wouldn't pay much attention to the width of the tire, in my opinion it isn't nearly as important as other properties of the tire.

Great times and great looking car! For round two, I'd go 3.91s, 2.5 exhaust, more cam, headers, drag radials. 440's can take a lot of cam and still be street smooth. A .484 Mopar cam is good. Once that 440 starts huffin and puffin, you will need some serious tires.

I know I need to change the exhaust. It had a 318 poly in it before and the pipes were almost brand new. It is 2.5 off the manifolds for about 3 feet, and my mufflers are 2.5. Just haven't had the rest upgraded. I wish I had put in a cam with more duration from the start also. Has a 228 232 @ 50 & 524 540 lift. But it is a very nice running cruiser the way it sits. Maybe I'll pop on the headers before it snows and see how she runs, although its so nice to not have to work around those damn things. I HATE headers. But like power more and drag racing too damn fun.

Great times!
Depending on cam etc, it's hard to say where the best gains could be made. Slicks are almost a sure fire gain on almost anything. I doubt you would see a big gain bumping the exhaust(given "mild" cam and manifolds.) My advice. Be happy with what you have. The faster you go, the faster you want to go. |

Awesome. Might try some K&N type air filters. The papers may restrict airflow.

Nice looking car, 'Dude.
I like the originality of it. Makes for a perfect sleeper. I'm taking my Dart to the track next weekend. It's only a 1/16th mile, but it will give me a base to start upgrading from. |

Discs are on my list. As far as the little filters, I threw them in the back seat when I ran. |
