Default Bought the Dodge L-700 kit by Lindberg yet?

Here's a link to the box art.
http://www.modelroundup.com/lin20001.html
It's the old classic Dodge L-700 tilt cab semi by IMC, later issued by Testors and now Lindberg. It's the big brother to the classic "Lil Red Wagon" A-100 kit.
It comes with the L-700, a flatbed trailer that can be built in either single or double axle configuration and a old Palmer 40 Ford kit that is really only good for what it shows on the box art, a junker!
I posted a thread in the Diesel forum about the optional
Perkins 6-354 `66-`70 and Cummins V8-185 (`69-`70) diesel engines for the L-700, but saw that there was no thread here, so ran in here and started one!
If you don't want to get it online, Walmart had a ton of these last time I checked and should be in most hobby shops as well.
The kit is actually quite good, not counting the Palmer based 40 Ford, some flash, but not excessive, well worth the price.

I picked one up a few weeks back at work, I'm in the process of hacking the '40 into a lead sled slammer.

I tried doing something with the 40 Ford in the kit too, but after shaving and smoothing tons of flash and seeing what I had left, I was reminded of my dad's advice to not polish turds and put that part of the kit back in the box!
I may do something with that part eventually, but what I'd really like to find is someone who casts the original sides and top for the trailer that came with the kit, or maybe an old IMC parts kit with the sides and top, everything else is in the reissue.
Though I may make some stake sides for the bed and fill the trailer with either cows or hay bales, haven't really decided yet.

I picked one up too. Not very happy with it. Enough left over flash to build three more cars. Some pieces were real thin too. Missing one side of the engine block for the 40. Think I'll build that into an old beat up race car for that era.

After buying the orange Fast and the Furious Supra from AMT and seeing all the flash, the L-700/'40 Ford kit looked mighty good It's always been easier to justify flash on a kit from 40+ year old tooling than from less than sub-5 year old tooling. I figure with the way that '40 is, atleast if you can't polish a turd you can always try to resculpt it...and as an added bonus, I'm not getting Daewoo on my hands either

I just wish I knew of a kit I could get a 5.9l or 6.7l Cummins out of to drop into the L-700, I've even thought of buying an OTR kit to get a more powerfull running gear and modern wheels and tires out of.

It's nearly as lousy as the kit, but here's a pic of the '40 I've been working on....

I'm going old school race car with the 40. I deleted all the fenders and running boards and set the body on the frame. The trunk lid secion will fit between the frame with the interior tub installed. Put a fuel tank and battery on the rear frame and you can see it between the rear tires and body. Take and fix the hood to the cowl area and cut the grill out from the front fender area leaving the small cutout area for the frame. Fix that to the front of the hood to support it. I cut the grill area out and used the white grill to go in it's place. I also cut the openings of that white grill so you can look through the front and see the rad. Just need to find some wheels large enough to make it look right.

Well it just goes to show we all love our Mopars. I was at Wally world last week and saw that model and just had to buy it. I haven't begun a build tho, haven't even opened the box yet. Glad to see I wasn't alone in the purchase. I think it'll look good hauling one of my other mopar models.

I hope it turns out to be better than the one I bought. Not real happy with the one I got. I have built much better s in the past.

Also have a RamCharger that I am starting on too. Going to try to make it match the one I own as much as possible.

Anybody finish there truck yet? Still working on mine. Had to trim the snout in the rear axle to get me engine to sit level. It was either that or cut the drive shaft, so I trimmed mine to get the tranny to sit level. Almost finsihed with the trailer. Going to get some blue and red speaker wire to do the air brake lines for the trailer.

I set mine asside for a while so I can build my Willy's coupe. Old truck has me ticked off at it for now. Got a line on some steel car wheels? I need some black steelies to do the Willy's like it was on this movie I saw.
