Default Whats the lightest 68-70 charger??

I wanna see about how light I can get my 69. The last time it was scaled it went 3850. Would like to lighten it up a lil bit. I see they make all kinds of fiberglass parts for them now. Just wanted to see what everyone elses weighs.

The stuff ya gotta remove like heater, wiper etc, and most the interior. 350 lbs is alot to get out.

Streetable is whatever amount of noise and general discomfort one is willing to tolerate. I wouldn't be without a heater/defroster, but I don't need tunes, a back seat, spare and jack, glass side windows, undercoating, power seat/windows, cruise control, inner front fenders, yada yada. Thats my definition of streetable; probably not anyone else's. 350 lbs ought to be doable starting from a well equipped R/T

I agree that getting rid of 350 is a lot.

I did some minor lightening to my 330, and it's still a big pig.

I removed...
the heater box (which was fairly big and metal)
Iron manifolds for headers
iron intake for alum
alum rad
no spare, jack, or stuff in the trunk,
Any redundant bracketry on bumpers etc.
has Manual steering with alum gear

It's still 3810 with me in it.

I figure the bumper on mine is a heavy thing, so I want to go fiberglass there, but I don't think on a 69 charger it would be as dramatic.

Tossing the interior from a Charger is for the birds. What are you going to do with a classy car that has a tin can for a chair inside? Hideaway headlights and no heater... WTF?

The Dodge Charger was a very exclusive car in the 2nd generation. It didn't share any body panels with any other car at the time and was considered a more cush/ luxurious performance car. It had padded upper door panels and rallye gauges as a standard option, unlike the other cars as well as a slew of other standards that exceeded the other B-Body cars.

Strip a sattelite down, if you have to have a light B-Body. Or better yet, get an early B-Body and go aluminum floor and full tubular.

I know that you can shave at least 130 from the front end with a tubular front end. Go with an aluminum intake and heads for another 50+ shaved. Go with a small block to shave another chunk off.

The fiberglass fenders aren't very light at all. The hinged fiberglass hoods are almost as heavy as a steel hood. Aluminum decklid, doors, fenders, hood and front valance would be an interesting start. It's all fab though. I could do it myself, but it would take some time and dedication. Almost more work than what it's worth. If I can't find a good fender, I may make a set of aluminum fenders and hood for my Charger. Granted I can get a working tig welder.

If you want a light car that you can keep relatively factory parts on, go with a small block A-body.
