340 Stroker
Finally got to the point I get to build my motor. So far I have got an Eagle 4340 crank 4.00" stroke, eagle Hbeam rods, Ross forged Pistons, Got my cam on the way from Racer Brown, He said either set of heads I have would do great. My Question is witch set do y'all req. I have a set of 302's ported out and a set of Magnums, Witch set for this torque monster??
Keep in mind this is in a 76 d100 pick up, not a drag car!!! With a 518 trans and 3.55 out back full body 4100lbs |

From what I've seen magnums are the better pick.
member 345dart runs magnum E heads on his 388, and is very happy with them. I've heard good things about the 302 heads too, but not usually used on a motor that large. |

Same here, have you priced out the valve train completely yet? If you are going after market, then Magnum is alot more expensive.

I allready have the valve train for both minus the push rods and lifters for the magnums, just curious if the 302'sare going to be enough?

302's are closed-chamber small-valve, small-port heads for a 318. I'd be reluctant to use them on a 400 inch engine. Don't know if they can be opened up enough to do that, but there's been a few discussions here on the 302's vs similar closed-chamber 308's for a 360

Agreed on the 302 being too small for a stroker, but gotta correct you on the 308 comment - they are OPEN chamber. Ran |
