Question

I have a pair of swirl port heads from a 318. I want to put them on either a 318 or a 273 four barrel. How much of a difference will it make to put the larger 1.88" valves in and have it pocket ported? Should I go all the way and do 2.02" Or should I save my little money for some othere stuff and just do some simple porting myself, but leave the valves? I don't have a lot of money, but I want to get a little workhorse( and please don't tell me to go 360!) Would what I do depend on whether I run a 10.5:1 comp 273 for a 9.0:1 comp 318? Please Help! Going with the larger valves is a lot of money so i would just have them milled to bring up the comp.a good three angle valve job ,get a edlbrock performer duel plain manifold 600 to 650 4bbl vac sec and a 340 cam.then when you get a little more cash to play with go back into the heads and use the 1.88 int 1.5 exh open the bowls use a 30* valve seat blend around the larger side around the valve guid and gasket match the ports and blend it in about 1 to 1.5"in to the port.

Question

Thanks a lot! Do you know what years and models the 360 swirls came on? I understand the last numbers are 308. I want to look for some. Do you also know what a pair of the 302s or 308s are worth right off the engine? Thanks. Joecuda

all the 302 heads have the closed chamber heart shape and the 308's are open chamber like an X head but the exaust side flows much better than an X head.
