I'm putting back together a 1987 318, and I just realized that my lousy Haynes manual doesnt have the rod cap nut torque spec. Does anybody have it handy? Thanks!
By the way, the heads on this engine (302 casiting) have extra holes drilled beneath the exhaust ports for the AIR pump. Any ideas on how to plug them? I was thinking of tapping the holes and putting some screws in. |

Don't reuse the old rod bolts! Buy new ones and the manufacturer should supply the torque specs with the bolts. For no more than what a set of new ones cost it's good insurance to replace them when you rebuild. On the 360 I rebuilt for my van I tapped the holes in the heads and put allenhead set screws in the holes. You could also clean the holes with a q-tip and lacquer thinner and fill them with J-B Weld.

I have all sorts of specs about the '79 360, and various 318s at my Chrysler Fifth Avenue Website.
