Default Hurst Shifter

Anyone use one of these Hurst Pistol Grip Quarter Stick Shifters on their 727 torqueflite. I'm thinking of putting one in my Cuda, within the existing console.

I have not used that one with that handle on it, but I have used the other one that has the ball on it. Same shifter. Works great. Make sure it's still a real Hust unit and not some of the newer b&m junk since they bought them out. I may have to look at some of there newer stuff to see if they improved it since the buy out, but I somehow doubt it.

I thought that it was bad enough, when Mr. Gasket bought Hurst. Now B&M owns Hurst. When did that deal happen?

Is there a better shifter than the Hurst Pistol Grip Quarter Stick that I should consider? Right now, I like the look.

I have a 1/4 stick shifter in my drag car.
It has worked great for 2 years.
I do have to keep an eye on the lockout holddown screw.
It keeps loosening and if I tighten it too much the lockout does not work
And it shifts from 1st to 3rd.
That would be more of a problem on a street driven car.
I have to keep the screw loose ,which is easy for me.
Thanks Steve.

I had a Quarter Stick in my '69 Camaro and liked it so much that when I had to put a new shifter in my 'cuda, I put in a new Quarter Stick. I think you'd enjoy it.

I have a reverse manual valve body. When you go from 1st to 2nd, do you just pull on the stick, or do you have to push a button or sqeeze a lever first?

You pull the lever when shifting from 2nd to 3rd.
Mine used to stay unlocked if the lever for the lockout
was too tight.
And it would go straight to 3rd.
I have learened to finger tighten it before every round
and it works great.
Steve.

As long as the quality has not changed since the buy out, you would be hard pressed to find anything better. TCI also offers a pistol grip shifter that is simular to the quarter stick, but I think the price is a little large for it.

Have you tried red loc tite on it? That will keep it in place, but work fast to get it torqued like you want it before it sets. Helps to do it in the cold. Takes longer for the stuff to set up. T

There's a bracket that mounts to the frame on my RamCharger and the steering box bolts to it. And it's the worst PIA to get to the bolts on it. By the third time it backed off, I filled it full of the red loc tite and it's still there today. Hope I never need to remove it.

I haven't tried any locktite.
May do that when I get the car out this spring.
I would like to not having to worry about it anymore.
Thanks Steve.
