Default Edelbrock 1405/1406?

I am about to replace my Thermoquad (sorry guys) with an Edelbrock 1406 on my 1974 Powerwagon. I haven't had much luck in rebuilding it since I found out the butterfly bushing had gone bad. I have a mildly built 360 and am planning on using this truck as a tow vehicle. I have heard good things about this carb as far as not having not to tune it constantly, and decent gas mileage. Has anyone else had any experience with this particular model?

Depending on the size I cant remember how big that one is, it should work pretty well for towing and such. The last edelbrock I had was on a sb chevy and it did fairly well.

I have had several Carter/Federal-Mougal versions of the OE AFB. I have not had an actual Edelbrock carb, but the no defuncted Carter sold by Federal Mougal is the same castings by Webber.

I've had a total of 3 of these carbs and they allways performed excellent.

I had a 625 cfm on my 360/904/2.76 geared Dodge Magnum (Based of the Cordoba) car with 26 inch tires. I routinely got 20 mpg's with the only real upgrades being dual exhaust of the exhaust manifolds and a MSD ignition.
The MSD really helped alot. I highly recomend a multi stike ignition for power and mileage.

The 1406 is a great carb. You should get better mileage with that carb than the 1405. The 1406 is calibrated more for fuel efficiency. I've used several of that model carb on different apps' from a 318 to a mild 383 & had great luck with them.

I ran a 1406 on a 318 w/340 cam worked great ,but out of the box it was to lean. At cruise there was surging so I fattened it up to the torker/1405 spec 'fixed'. So with a 360 w/cam you'll probably have to fatten it up jets/rods ,this is where Holleys get cheaper.

Holley gets about $4.95 for a pair or ''box'' of 2 jets, power valves $10.95. Edelbroke rods $14.95. jets $7.95, But of course holley does not calibrate they're universal carbs for a P.O.S chevy 350.
