Default 71 340 spread bore intake

Hey all back in the states in less than a month YES! I had a problem when I left with the rod, I did a manifold and carb upgrade before leaving. I installed a 71 340 speadbore intake, problem is a small water leak from the water nipple on the front of the intake. I have removed it and tried teflon and everything else with no luck. It only seems to trickle out when the engine begins to cool down, very strange. I have looked this thing over very ard for any type of cracks and such with no luck and it just wants to dribble out some time as the motor begins to cool. It seems to be coming from around the nipple and not the intake itself. Any ideas on how to fix this one? I thought about J&B weld as a sealer but that would be forever and I really don't want to do that if possible. Your rod is not cool is it has radiator fluid spewed everywhere!! Any ideas?

Pull the nipple out clean both threads w/alcohol. Smear black RTV on both threads & put in together. also try half a tube of Bars, the metal flake kind.

Just replace the nipple with one from any parts store. I get all of mine from Advance Auto when I put on new aluminum intakes since they don't come with fittings and removing old ones are a pain.

Aren't these nipples just standard pipe thread nipples? Worth a buck or less at your corner hardware? Clean up the threads and use liquid Teflon thread sealer or a suitable anaerobic product and put the new nipple in.

I tried the clean and RTV method already. Based off of the previous post what are the chances that a new nipple will do the trick. The old one has a slot where a peice of flat steel can be used to back it out.

Put new nipples in it and that will eliminate them if it still leaks and it's cheaper than swapping out the intake. And yes, they are pipe thread.

Are you sure it isnt the thermostat housing that is leaking?

Are you talking about the fitting that goes to the By-pass hose (MP p/n P4876374) which is THE correct 1" fitting w/the slots or are you refering to the hose fitting to the heater core as i found 2 different sizes from NAPA! BK6601504 is for 1/2" hose w/1/4" NPT,or,...BK6601514 which is for 5/8" hose and 3/8" NPT!. I got the fitting (1") and the smaller ones from E-Bay,but the MP part is almost twice as heavy and resembles the factory one to a tee!. I would take a bit of paint stripper and smear it around the inside threads on the manifold to loosen whatever "sealer" was used in there and then clean them out with a small detail brush!. Are you using the factory clamps?.
