In the other thread, you mentioned the two different types of long ram manifolds that Chrysler used on the 413 300. They were both about 30 inches long but the difference was that half of the inner wall was removed, which moved the power band and allowed for a more powerful engine. From the outside, you couldn't tell. The "15" incher was referred to as the short ram at the time, even though it was 30 inches long.
A "30" manifold could be reworked to achieve the same effect. As a side note, the long ram induction manifolds were used across the board in Plymouth, Dodge, and Chrysler and were available on the 361, 383 and 413. A few Desotos might have even gotten some. Eventually, the 413 was fitted with the new style "short ram" manifolds with the carbs sitting staggered over the engine, rather than hanging out over the fender wells. Those are being produced aftermarket, today. As an afterthought, there were even differences in the manifolds, depending on which body style they were used in. Some had more of a curved drop where the carbs mounted and some were flatter, towards the end. That was done because of clearance issues. I always loved the old cross rams and even though they were built for torque rather than brute horsepower, the underhood kick-ass visual effect was better than the Hemi..........at least to me. |

I want one for my '79 Dodge Magnum. Low deck model stroked. He he he he.
I don't know of anyone re-popping them, but as said, they do pop up on E-bay every now and again. |

The intakemanifolds alone aren't that expensive, but if they come with all the hardware, wedges, throttle linkage and the special exhaust manifolds that support the rams, they are worth quite a lot. I think most difficult to find are those exhaust manifolds. The long rams installed in to most newer bodies require body modifications, they tend to hit the inner fenders.

Price can be relative. Start looking around in your local pull aparts. Mopar Collectors Guide magazine has listings for several mopar yards across the country. Last time I've seen one for sale was at Mopars at the Park in Tulsa last Nov. and it was complete with carbs and linkages for 1200.00. That may sound high but price an individual carb and times two, to get that and a manifold is actually pretty cheap. Just start looking at Mopar events online and their will always be vendors selling old parts.

I mean I know how they act with 413 with 3000rpm or lower, but anyone used them with 440 ??? just curious, how they act compare to edelbrock or other aftermarket intake.

Note, John Kunkel confirms they do fit. |

I've seen lots of long rams fitted to 440's, the head/intake port is the same as all wedges except the Max Wedge.
Chassis fitment is another issue, sheet metal work is required to fit them to most later engine compartments. |

Thanks, John. I am pleased to learn that. I stand corrected.
