Default exhaust manifold questions?

i had a quick question for you guys.. do you know what the difference between the a-body exhaust manifolds and the regular ones are for say 1969? i was looking at my 383 the other day and noticed that the manifolds are both different, one has a higher hump and is further from the block than the other...im shure its normal but it just striked me as odd and i was wondering why the design difference, i would get the cast numbers but i cant get to both of them. i hope the pics show it the one on the right side from the front is farther than the left one...

The A-body versions are more restrictive than an exhaust manifold for B,C & E bodies. Mainly the drivers side where the clearance around the steering column is tighter.

Even on non A-body apps the manifolds L to R look quite different from eachother in shape on the HP versions. There are also slight differences from the early style HP manifolds to the later on ones. The only ones that really look similar from L to R are the non HP versions.

ok thanks, now my second question little off topic is, my 383 originally had a/c, and power steering and was painted turquise, with a carter avs 4bbl bolted to her, and painted blue, now the vin states the engine is "H" coded but how come it would be painted turquoise and not the orange? is it still one of the HP 383's or the normal 383 4bbl, sorry to you this stuff is probably very obvious, im fairly new with old mopar

if memory serves me the hp 383 are orange.they had the hp manifolds 4bl and hoter cam and valve springs with dampers. the 383 4bl painted turquoise has the hp manifold std cam and springs. also the hp block has hp stamped on the left front pad by the water pump. the std 383 does not

Turquoise is the correct color for your engine.

Here's a chart! http://www.mopar1.us/enginecolors.html There could be the odd one that is not 100% correct, though, depending on build date's!

Turquoise it woulda been if non 4bbl/4bbl HP/Magnum/Roadrunner. Really, since the 383 was never available in a Duster, and no more were installed in Darts or A-body Cudas after 69, and no longer produced after 71', how about if ya painted it Chrysler blue like all engines were in 74', and just told all the Phord & Shoverolet lovers that its just a 318/360? They probably dont know the diff between sb/bb Mopars anyway!

Yep, just not the Magnum and Roadrunner engines. I looked @ my post again and realized that I put 4bbl 4bbl hp engines as not being Turquoise, which is incorrect. My friends 68' Newport w/ 383 4bbl premium eng is turquoise, I shoulda rechecked what I was typing! Thanks for clarifying.

My 70 Coronet 500 is an N code car. With a 383, avs, hp exhausts, and it was blue, not orange like the magnums. Not that this is relevant, but interesting.
