Default Rect converted to Oval Port

Question came up today from a client of ours. We've never performed the conversion but can it be done?

Oval Port W2 head to a rect port 6-bbl intake? I know the bolt pattern is off but has anyone performed this with any success, if ever so slightly?

It can be done. Dick Landy used to do it and redrill the intakes.

Thanks. Figured as much. Would be a sort of cool build doing that as the engine is going into a 67 Power Wagon from an Alaska State Agency. The guy bought it in Colorado and it came with a thick wall 318. We bored it out to 4" bore, sticking a 4" stroke in it with triple deuces on top. Problem is he wants to run a our W2 heads with shafts as they'll help out with the torque on this monster 2.5 ton truck.

The head is a different port config than the intake so i gotta be more than a redrill, better call Landys , they still open?Port match be really mismatched. If Landys isnt available, try Chapman heads.

Redrilling the intake to a wider W-2 pattern is the easy part. Ports are in the same location, but that shape difference...WOW! That has got to be some work effort in that!

The W-2 also has a dual plane from MoPar that is similar to a OE 4 bbl config.

I bought a Street Dominator at a swap meet and I was so excited to get it , I didnt even check the port configuration, it was for a W2! I bolted it up, used a 2 part epoxy to blend the ports as good as I could and used regular gaskets! It worked, didnt leak and I ran it for about 2 months before I traded it and a performer for a rectangloe port SD. I didnt feel much difference, but mileage went up about 2 mpg...?
