Default 9 1/4" rearends?

Are the 9 1/4" rears that were being used on lets say a 75 Fury police car the same as the 9 1/4" rears being used on Durangos and Rams now? I realize axle sizes in length are differant. I'm talking about differentials and gears?

Yes, but the new rears have a thinner ring gear for the anti lock up system.
Parts are not exactly interchangable from what I understand. Some yes, others no.
I'm not to sure on what is exactly OK to do.

I have a set of 3.21's for a older 9-1/4 collecting dust.

I guess that kind of told me what I needed to know. So, Where do I find new ring and pinion gears for an old rearend? And if I'm looking in SUMMIT catalog and see gears for a 9 1/4 rearend how will I know what its for. Is there a difference in spline count or diameter Ex. (1.876" 29-spline pinion)

There is a spline count difference on the axles. I don't remember when the change happened or the count they went to. Summitt should list the years for the geras. But you can call them up for it without a catolog and they'll help you out.

Just tell'em it's the older 9-1/4 from the 70's and they'll get ya the right gears. New gears aren't made so often for a unpopular rear to build. Once you try Summitt/Jegs, go to Mancini racing (.com) and/or your local MP dealer. Sometimes they actuall have stuff. Randys ring and pinion carries hard to find parts.
Lastly, you can allways call up Richmond gears, US gears etc......
