Default 4-speed tailshaft bushing

How do replace the tailshaft bushing in a 4-speed? Can you use tool to remove and replace bushing without taking tailshaft off? Or do have to take the tailshaft off to replace.
Mines got way too much play, after checking why seal was leaking.
