Unhappy Valve clash w/ pistons?

I had a water pump failure on my '97 sohc neon. The engine stopped, I believe the water pump failed to the point of throwing the timing belt (which drives it). Is the SOHC 2.0 engine an "interference" engine? What could I expect for engine damage besides bent valves. Is the head/gasket a hard job to do.? Thanks.
